How an Optomap Retinal Scan Works
Optomap produces ultra-widefield images of your retina, capturing more than 80% in a single scan compared with only 10–15% using traditional methods. This wider view includes the peripheral retina, where early signs of problems such as retinal tears, holes, or detachments often appear.
By showing areas that are usually difficult to see, Optomap helps us detect potential issues much sooner and with greater accuracy, supporting checks for conditions such as glaucoma, diabetic eye disease, and macular degeneration.
Optomap scans are quick, painless, and suitable for both adults and children, with no need for eye drops, puffs of air, or bright flashes of light.

Early Detection with Ultra-Widefield Retinal Imaging
Optomap captures more than 80% of your retina in a single ultra-widefield image, giving us a much broader view than traditional retinal photographs, which typically show only 10–15%. This allows us to examine the outer edges of the retina, where many early signs of eye disease can appear.
This wider perspective makes Optomap particularly valuable for identifying retinal tears, holes, or detachments at an early stage, as well as supporting checks for conditions such as glaucoma, diabetic eye disease, and macular degeneration. Detecting these changes early means treatment can be started before significant sight loss occurs.
