What is ZEST?

Zocular Eyelid System Treatment (ZEST) is a deep cleansing procedure designed to address dry eye and related conditions. It focuses on:

  • Deep Cleansing:
ZEST uses a gentle, okra-based solution to lift and remove debris, biofilm, and irritants from the eyelids and lash margins.

  • Targeted Treatment:
The procedure aims to improve meibomian gland function by removing blockages and promoting the release of oils needed for healthy tears.

  • Addressing Underlying Issues:
ZEST can help with dry eye, meibomian gland dysfunction, and demodex infestations, which are all conditions that can cause eye discomfort and irritation.

Zocular Eyelid System Treatment

Zest, or Zocular Eyelid System Treatment, is an in-practice procedure for dry eye and related conditions like meibomian gland dysfunction, blepharitis and demodex. It utilizes a natural okra-based solution and specialized applicators to gently exfoliate and cleanse the eyelids, removing debris and biofilm that can contribute to inflammation and discomfort. The treatment aims to restore the natural state of the eyelids and improve the function of the meibomian glands, which are crucial for producing the tear film.

What to expect before a ZEST treatment:

The Optometrist will assess the front of your eyes, eyelids and lashes and take a photograph of  each eye to keep as a record of how your eyes look prior to treatment.

The Optometrist will ask you complete a questionnaire about the symptoms you are experiencing.

You will then have a discussion with the Optometrist regarding treatment options and whether ZEST is the right treatment for you.

Important Considerations:
  • Consult with your eye care professional:
Possible allergy to Okra or Soya. We may need to perform a patch test prior to treatment if you are sensitive to any of the ingredients.

  • Follow post-treatment instructions:
Adhere to any aftercare instructions provided by your eye care professional to maximize the benefits of the treatment. This may include regular cleaning of the eyelids and lashes and the use of ocular lubricants. Please endeavour to follow the Optometrists instructions, otherwise you may find that the benefits do not last as predicted.

  • Potential for multiple treatments:
Some individuals may require multiple ZEST treatments to achieve optimal results. This is usually done at 6 monthly intervals, however some patients do require additional treatments at 3 monthly intervals.
